Brother Dr. Juan "Varadero" Guardia received the Dr. John Hernandez Leadership Award at the annual meeting of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) held in Atlanta, Georgia from March 29-April 2. The Dr. John Hernandez Leadership Award is given to an outstanding practitioner in the field of Student Affairs who has demonstrated leadership, citizenship and active participation within the ACPA Latin@ Network. The Dr. John Hernandez Leadership Award was established to recognize Dr. Hernandez's past contributions to ACPA and the Latin@ Network during its formative years. Brother Guardia was past co-chair of the Latin@ Network from 2003-2005. ACPA is the leading student affairs Association that advances student affairs and engages students for a lifetime of learning and discovery. ACPA has nearly 8,000 members representing nearly 1,500 private and public institutions from across the U.S. and internationally. In addition, members include companies and organizations who are engaged in the campus marketplace. Our members include graduate students enrolled in student affairs/higher education administration programs as well as faculty who are teaching and researching in this area to student affairs professionals from entry level to senior student affairs officers.
Since 1931, Phi Iota Alpha has set precedents for Latino greek leadership in the global community. Through the past 75 years, Phi Iota Alpha has cultivated and inspired Latino men nationwide to become leaders of their communities across Latin America and the United States. Open to all men, this distinguished brotherhood includes many professionals and former presidents of Latin American countries. Today Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, continues to lead as the preeminent Latino fraternal organization with chapters throughout the United States. |
