Julio Cotto

Julio Irving Cotto is Director of the Hispanic Initiative at Junior Achievement of New York, Inc. (JANY). In this capacity, he is responsible for increasing JANY's visibility and relationships with Hispanic youth, Hispanic-serving schools, and Latino professionals throughout New York City's five boroughs and Long Island. Before coming to JANY, Julio served as Associate Vice President for Advancement for the National Hispanic Institute (NHI), a national, non-profit organization that works with Latino youth in leadership training. Prior to that role, Julio served as one of the organization's lead trainers and in-house college admissions and financial specialist. In this position he maintained a close relationship with over 100 of the nation's finest colleges and universities. Named the 2001 Undergraduate Brother of the Year, Julio has served in numerous leadership positions within the fraternity.
Raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Julio graduated with a BA in Philosophy and Latin American studies from Boston University and received his Master of Liberal Arts degree from St. Edward's University in Austin, TX with a thesis project entitled, "Looking for Direction: Three Paths to Leadership in the Latino Community." In addition to serving on the Phi Iota Alpha Board of Trustees, Julio is also a Trustee of the Union Foundation. His parents hail form Puerto Rico and Guatemala. He and his wife, Mayra, currently live in New York City.
