Phi Iota Alpha's 75th Anniversary Honored with
Proclamation from New York Senator Charles Schumer
New York, NY - June 2007
In honor of its 75th anniversary Phi Iota Alpha today was presented with a Proclamation from the Honorable Senator from the State of New York, Charles E. Schumer.
The Proclamation sponsored by Senator Schumer recognizes Phi Iota Alpha for its 75 years of service to the community. The Proclamation states:
WHEREAS: On July twenty-seventh through in the year two thousand and seven, the Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will be hosting their national convention in New York and commemorating the organizations 75th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS: Phi Iota Alpha was founded in 1931 and is the oldest Latino fraternity in our nation. The mission and foundation of Phi Iota Alpha Latino Fraternity is to educate and continue the rich history and cultures of the Latino community; and
WHEREAS: Phi Iota Alpha Latino Fraternity is dedicated to developing in its members an awareness and pride in the common values and traditions of the nations of Latin America. The organization also empowers them to become active participants in the social and economic areas of this nation; and
WHEREAS: Phi Iota Alpha encourages scholastic success in its members and guides them to craft a new vision that moves beyond the attainment of personal and professional goals so that they may contribute to the larger good of the community though individual acts and deeds; and
WHEREAS: As the Fraternity continues to plan for the future, it is of the utmost importance to remember that its history was made by men of great vision, leadership, devotion, persistence, and most importantly, commitment to the continued development of its youth; and
WHEREAS: Today, we are immensely proud to recognize Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for its dedication, its professional excellence and its contributions that have enriched and added to the cultural fabric of our nation; and therefore
BE IT KNOWN: That I, Senator Charles E. Schumer, do hereby recognize and observe with those gathered today the 75th Anniversary of the Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
This July 28th The Union Foundation will be hosting the 75th Anniversary Banquet of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity. The fraternity has graciously allowed the entire event to be used as the launch event for the foundation's annual appeal. All funds raised by this event will support all initiatives in the first year of operation.
All funds raised will go directly to the implementation of the foundation’s programming and to supporting the diligent work of our volunteers.
As an IRS-designated public charity, $50 of each banquet ticket purchased is entirely tax-deductible to the extent allowed by section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code.
