    Phiota wins 1st Annual Latino Greek Charity Softball Classic

    New York City, New York - October, 2007

    On October 6, 2007 the national softball team of Phi Iota Alpha won the First Annual Latino Greek Charity Softball Classic.

    The weather was a sunny 86 degrees at East River Park in New York City. Brothers from all over the Phiota Nation converged for an afternoon of sportsmanship and for a good cause.

    Phiota won all three 3 games and eased the way for the championship.

    The first game was versus Lambda Sigma Upsilon Fraternity, Inc.
    Phiota won by a score of 14-1.

    The second game was versus Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity.
    Phiota won by a score of 15-2.

    The third and final game of the tournament was the championship game against La Unidad Latina/Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. Phiota won by a score of 17-3.

    All the winning proceeds of the 1st Annual Latino Greek Charity Softball Classic will be presented to Save Latin America, Inc. www.savelatinamerica.org

    SLA's mission is to expedite and facilitate the assimilation process of Hispanics into mainstream American society, as well as address and alleviate the enormous obstacles facing low to moderate income Hispanics upon their arrival to this country.  SLA's strategy focuses on improving access to education, healthcare, economic improvement within a working framework that incorporates information sharing, community outreach, public awareness, volunteers, as well as mentoring.
