Human trafficking, modern day slavery, is pervasive in the farm worker community. The Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc. is the key player in combating human trafficking. Renan "Poeta" Salgado actively investigates incidents of human trafficking. Renan is a distinguished brother of the Epsilon Chapter Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and graduate of Binghamton University. Renan was born in Ecuador, raised in Bushwick Brooklyn, and now lives in Rochester New York.

Since 1931, Phi Iota Alpha has set precedents for Latino greek leadership in the global community. Through the past 75 years, Phi Iota Alpha has cultivated and inspired Latino men nationwide to become leaders of their communities across Latin America and the United States. Open to all men, this distinguished brotherhood includes many professionals and former presidents of Latin American countries. Today Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, continues to lead as the preeminent Latino fraternal organization with chapters throughout the United States. Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc. (FLSNY) is a not-for-profit corporation providing free legal services to New York's migrant and seasonal agricultural workers. FLSNY's lawyers and paralegals provide a wide range of legal advocacy on behalf of farm workers. FLSNY seeks to assure that agricultural employers and housing providers in New York and nationwide comply with the law, that government entities respect farm workers' civil rights, and that the public is educated about farm worker exclusions from existing labor laws. |
